Bowled Over and Out

There’s a new kid in town and one that involves eating – my favourite kind.

The Bowling House is a one off, recently opened in the old Cinema (old Weatherspoons, old Asian buffet) on 7 Dereham road, Nr2 4HX.

Five lanes of automated ten pin bowling from £5.50 Mondays to £8 per person weekends.

But the place is so cool – it’s like an American Retro chic, trendy, warehouse vibe with little secret nooks & crannies and lavish loos. (I like a lavish loo!) Plush furniture, chunky tables, bare wood, stark concrete, rich colours and cool cocktails.

Did I mention the cocktails? Ohhh, I love cocktails. Professionally mixed and designed, Bowling house offer a gorgeous array of reasonably priced cocktails for every taste. They even have sharing ones like the ‘Shooting Star’ £50 for 4 Vanilla Vodka, Passion Fruit Puree, Vanilla Sugar, Passion Fruit Liquor and a bottle of Prosecco – how lush is that!

Food times vary, so may be worth asking before you go. But I loved the menu, there’s lots of original stuff to share. Big stuff like the £14 topped tortilla chip bowl enough for 2, to the sides like the Salt Thyme skin on fries – – I must admit they are the best fries I’ve had for a long long time. I love fries – in fact I love lush loos, cocktails and fries – I love burgers too, so I may have to try one of those one day soon too. We also had a side of Quinoa salad for £4.50 and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken £7. Some items are better costed than others for size but with lots of exciting things to choose from everyone will be happy and most things are perfect for sharing.

The bars cool too – well stocked with everything a bar should have and more to delight. Plus, they do a good selection of hot and cold drinks, but we had one of their generous shakes for £4.50, for £3 extra you can also blend in some of the hard stuff. I had the Mocca, with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, a shot of espresso and milk – it was really tasty. They even brought it to us while we were bowling.

Service was friendly – I look forward to going back at night when its adults only and cocktails are flowing.
